Crank parts line-up

Here they are, all of the parts to get the crank assembled.

I got the last 3 big end needle bearings from Dean Faria at www.discountbikespares.com. I would highly recommend Dean, to anyone that needs parts for suzuki bike's, especially the older ones. He is always helpful, and makes very fast delivery, and usually has the best prices.

Hopefully the rebuild of the crank will begin next week.

Piston cleanup

I little work with the 'new' pistons that i bought on the internet last year, made them look like new..

I polished the piston crown roughly to prevent premature carbon build-up

I also took of the piston rings and used an old broken ring from the melted piston , and used this to scrape out carbon build up, this is normal for 2-strokes, that the ring are filled with old burnt oil and that causes the rings to get stock. The ultrasonic cleaner helped a lot cleaning of the rest of the piston

Crank parts

Finally, the parts for the crank rebuild arrived from Erik Potze. He has a company knalnaarpotz in holland wich specialise in rebuilding and tuning classic japanese 2 strokers.

Unfortunately, some of the main bearings for the crank are not produced anymore, those special bearing has an oil guide lip wich is surposed to send the oil from the main bearing out to the big end conrod needle bearing.

Erik assured me, that crank would last just as long without these missing oil guide. He also told me that hardcore race bikes like the RG500 does not have this system, even modern 2 strokes dont have this system either. They also use these bearings on their own race bikes without any problems.. The oil will get to the bearings no matter what. Sounds okay, and i dont have any other alternatives, since these bearing dont excist anymore..

One thing i sure found out of, is that rebuilding a classic 2stroke triple crank is NOT cheap! Parts alone for the 550 crank is over 4000DKR (over 700 dollars) and thats without new Conrods...

Now i only need the 3 big end conrod needle bearings, that i forgot to order at eriks shop..

I will get back once the rebuild is ready
